Forever Game Day Week 11 Playoff Contenders Recap!
#1 Oregon vs Maryland – Oregon had more trouble than they may have expected out of the Terps. Dillon Gabriel had a chance to make a Heisman statement but somehow made 3 TDs look ok. He did set the NCAA record for Touchdowns in a career it only took 6 years. The only thing saving Mike Locksley’s job at this point may be everyone forgets about Maryland football.
#2 Ohio State vs Purdue- Well, well, well, if it isn't the annual ritual where Purdue tries to remember what football is, and Ohio State shows them in the most embarrassing way possible. This weekend, the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes decided to play "How many points can we score before the Boilermakers even think about touching the endzone?" The answer: 45, and not a single one for Purdue.
#3 Georgia vs #16 Ole Miss – Jackson Dart pulled his best Willis Reed and Carson Beck had more sideline smiles than interceptions, which is quite an accomplishment! Lane Kiffin finally got a big win at the “Sip”. The students rushed the field too soon because numbers counting down is hard to follow for Mississippians.
#4 Miami vs Georgia Tech- The Canes finally got exposed as overhyped even though Cam Ward is no joke. Miami has been begging teams to beat it for the last few weeks and it actually happened. This is the second Florida team that Georgia Tech has now broken the dreams of after apparently breaking FSU in the first game of the year.
#5 Texas vs Florida- After the public vote of confidence (that we are sure is totally unrelated to the Todd Golden story breaking the next day), Florida went and was DOA against the Longhorns. Can we just call him Buyout Billy at this point? Texas rolled on offense but still has yet to bet a team that is currently in the top 10. At least they are handling the SEC transition better than Oklahoma. Woof.
#6 Penn State vs Washington – Penn State bounced back with a win against one of the teams who helped ruin college football more with a naked cash grab. Thanks, Washington. Enjoy your beatings in the B1G 10 while we all must suffer through Big Noon games that ruin the atmosphere of primetime night games for a few extra bucks for Fox. Anyway, Penn State will still probably make the playoffs and have a disappointing first round exit.
#7 Tennessee vs Mississippi State- Tennessee continues to struggle to hold on to the ball and their (Literal) big ticket quarterback didn’t play the second half. Mississippi State did enough to make Vols fans sweat, which isn’t much. Dylan Sampson continues to not get enough Heisman hype.
#8 Indiana vs. Michigan- Indiana stayed undefeated but Michigan may have put out a blueprint on how to beat them. Step 1, be a semi-competent team. That’s the first time Indiana has seen one all year. Meanwhile, Michigan continues to be a dumpster fire and is hoping they can put together enough money to convince an LSU recruit to flip to them and give them some offensive life next year. Speaks to how bad it is that Michigan needs to back up the truck to flip an in state LSU commit but we will get to the LSU debacle later.
#9 BYU vs Utah- We haven’t seen so many Utahians argue about what constitutes illegal use of hands since Warren Jeffs… Nevermind… BYU kept their dream season alive with the help of some officiating. BYU will probably win the Big 12 and get a CFP berth but who cares. Crap conference. Once they face a B1G 10 or SEC team, they will collapse like jealous sister wives.
#10 Notre Dame vs Florida State- Florida State, LOL. Well, Notre Dame is feeling good about itself after it keeps rolling shitty teams and that certainly continued Saturday. Speaks volumes that Northern Illinois can jump up and bean Notre Dame but FSU LOST by 49! Remember kids, FSU doesn’t get enough respect, that’s what we all learned last year.
#11 Alabama vs #15 LSU- Where to start. Alabama fans who were dogging Deboer, calling out Ryan Williams fingernails and saying Milroe is junk sure changed their tunes fast on Saturday. Is there a less stable bunch than Bama fans? Bama looks like trouble if they make the CFP. Speaking of trouble, Brian Kelly. So, the problem at Notre Dame was the academic standards were too high, now are they too low? The Paper Tigers were totally outclassed. Where does Kelly get off complaining about Bama still blitzing in the 4th quarter? Kelly still had the starters in, what does he expect? How about the message that sends to the team, “We were getting our asses kicked so bad I expected Bama to call off the dogs”. That’s why he won our Idiot of the Week award. Also, LSU rented a tiger for the game? The fuck is that? The tiger showed more spunk than LSU at least. Before you even argue about the cage size, etc. The truly cruel thing was making poor Omar the tiger watch LSU shit itself all over the field.
#12 Boise State vs Nevada- Boise State will probably get that group of 5 bid for the CFP and Ashton Jeanty is a MONSTER. However, squeaking past a 3-8 Nevada team at home is not a good look. Not much else to say here other than who wouldn’t love seeing Alabama have to go play a playoff road game at Boise State.
Hopes dashed: Iowa State, Pittsburg (oof, right in the Narduzzis), LSU
Still in the Hunt: Colorado, SMU, Texas A &M, Army
High on Crack: Eli Drinkwitz
